AN UPPER LEVEL HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL BUILD ACROSS CALIFORNIA
SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY. THIS COMBINED WITH OFFSHORE FLOW NEAR THE
SURFACE WILL BRING HOT AND DRY CONDITIONS TO MUCH OF SOUTHWEST
CALIFORNIA. LIGHT OFFSHORE BREEZES WILL FIRST IMPACT PORTIONS OF
THE FORECAST AREA ON SUNDAY…WHEN TEMPERATURES WILL SOAR TO BETWEEN
100 AND 105 DEGREES ACROSS MANY VALLEY LOCATIONS. EVEN INLAND PORTIONS
OF THE COASTAL PLAIN WILL CLIMB WELL INTO THE 90S ON SUNDAY.

ON MONDAY AND TUESDAY…THE OFFSHORE FLOW STRENGTHENS SLIGHTLY…WITH
OFFSHORE BREEZES BECOMING MORE WIDESPREAD ACROSS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA.
TEMPERATURES WILL LIKELY APPROACH OR EXCEED RECORD LEVELS ON MONDAY
AND TUESDAY…WHEN VALLEY AREAS ARE EXPECTED TO RANGE BETWEEN 100 AND
107 DEGREES. MOST COASTAL AREAS WILL CLIMB WELL INTO THE 90S WITH
INLAND PORTIONS OF THE COASTAL PLAIN…INCLUDING DOWNTOWN LOS
ANGELES…EXPECTED TO EXCEED 100 DEGREES.

FIRE DANGER WILL BEGIN TO INCREASE ACROSS SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA ON
SUNDAY…PEAKING ON MONDAY AND TUESDAY WHEN OFFSHORE WINDS ARE GENERALLY
EXPECTED TO GUST BETWEEN 20 AND 30 MPH BELOW AND THROUGH PASSES AND
CANYONS OF LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA COUNTIES. THE OFFSHORE WINDS
COMBINED WITH TRIPLE DIGIT HEAT…WIDESPREAD SINGLE DIGIT HUMIDITIES…AND
VERY DRY FUELS WILL BRING NEAR CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS TO
PORTIONS OF THE SOUTHLAND…WHICH MAY PROMPT A FIRE WEATHER WATCH AS WE
DRAW CLOSER TO THE EVENT.”
